Biographies of Microtune Executives

James A. Fontaine
CEO and President
James Fontaine, with more than twenty-three years of experience in the electronics industry, is CEO and President of Microtune.

Mr. Fontaine had been President of Microtune from 1999-2000 and retired from that position, but was asked by the Board of Directors to return to the Company in August, 2003. Prior to joining Microtune, he was President of The Fontaine Group, a firm specializing in high-technology company formation, business plan development and funding.

From 1994 - 1996, Mr. Fontaine held various positions at Cirrus Logic, including Vice President and General Manager of the PC Graphics and Video Division and Vice President of Marketing. As Vice President of Marketing at Cirrus Logic, he was responsible for desktop and portable graphics strategy and product marketing activities.

In 1991, Mr. Fontaine co-founded and served as President of Pixel Semiconductor, which was acquired by Cirrus Logic in 1994. In 1985, Mr. Fontaine founded and served as Vice President of Marketing for Visual Information Technologies, Inc., a company that developed image-processing technologies for high-end visualization markets. He has also held positions of design engineer and product manager at Texas Instruments and Mostek.

Mr. Fontaine received a BSEE from Marquette University in 1980.

 

Albert H. (Bud) Taddiken
Chief Operating Officer
Albert Taddiken, who led the development team that created Microtune's flagship product, the MicroTuner single-chip tuner, is Chief Operating Officer. Previously, he served in the Office of the President and as the Company's Chief Technical Officer, Vice President and General Manager of the Broadband Communications Business Unit, Vice President of IC Engineering and Director of IC Development.

Prior to joining Microtune, he was with Texas Instruments for more than twelve years in various technical and management positions, working on RF, analog, digital, power, and opto-electronic circuits based on silicon and compound semiconductor devices.

Mr. Taddiken holds 10 patents and has a BSEE degree from the Massachusetts' Institute of Technology.

 

Jeffrey A. Kupp
Chief Financial Officer

Jeffrey A. Kupp, with more than 20 years of experience in finance and administration, is Vice President, CFO and Secretary.

Previously, Mr. Kupp was CFO at Inet Technologies Inc. where he was responsible for accounting, finance, financial planning, treasury, investor relations, purchasing, integration and order administration. He played an instrumental role in the $500 million sale transaction of Inet to Tektronix, Inc.

Before Inet Technologies, Mr. Kupp served as Vice President of Finance and CFO at IEX Corporation and CS Wireless Systems, Inc. At IEX he played a key role in the $163 million sale transaction of IEX to Tekelec. He was also employed at DSC Communications, Inc. Kupp began his career in accounting at Ernst and Young (formerly Ernst and Whinney). He is a Certified Public Accountant. He holds a BA degree in Accounting and Computer Science from Asbury College (Wilmore, KY) and an MBA degree from Cornell University (Ithaca, New York).


Robert S. Kirk
Vice President of Worldwide Sales
Robert Kirk, with more than 20 years of international semiconductor sales and sales management experience, is Vice President of Worldwide Sales. He brings to Microtune a background in taking new products to market, in building sales teams and in developing and sustaining relationships with major customers. Previous to this position, he was Vice President and General Manager of the Northern European Division of Avnet, Inc. where he successfully built the business and drove sales across a range of networking electronics products.

Prior to that, Mr. Kirk was with Motorola, Inc. for more than 18 years, serving in various sales and sales management positions, including that of Director of the Network and Computing Sales Group where he built relationships with leading customers in the broadband and networking industries.

Mr. Kirk holds a BSEE degree from Purdue University.

 

Phillip D. Peterson
General Counsel

Phillip Peterson is the Company’s General Counsel. He has more than 10 years of legal experience, specializing in corporate governance, 1934 Act SEC reporting, securities offerings, mergers and acquisitions, venture capital transactions, and general business counseling. Previously, he was an attorney with Cox Smith Matthews Incorporated (formerly Cox & Smith Incorporated) and DLA Piper (formerly Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich, LLP) in Austin, Texas. Prior to that, he was an attorney with King & Spalding LLP and Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P. in Houston, Texas.

Mr. Peterson is a member of the State Bar of Texas and received his Juris Doctor from the University of Texas School of Law, graduating with honors. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.
