RF Centers for IC Excellence
To promote RF-IC innovation and invention, Microtune has established RF Centers for IC Excellence at its headquarters in Plano, Texas, and with offices in Plantation, Florida (near Fort Lauderdale) and Boulder, Colorado.

Microtune's RF Centers for IC Excellence is comprised of teams of RF silicon and systems experts that drive advanced RF technologies into new and industry-leading products. They bring these forward-looking solutions to market quickly, efficiently and cost effectively, and then provide customers a high level of quality and support to integrate Microtune technology into consumer end products.
RF Design Experts/Competencies
To design and create high-performance solutions, the teams include seasoned RF experts across multiple domains and design competencies
- RF-IC Designers
- Layout Engineers
- RF Systems Engineers
- IC Test Engineers
- Applications Engineers
- Software Developers
- Manufacturing and Test Engineers
- Application Engineers
They stay ahead of current technologies, standards and applications, focusing on products that offer differentiation and competitive advantage to customers. In the process, they are tackling and resolving some of the most challenging issues in RF electronics:
- Multi-dimensional optimization of customer requirements
- Multi-tuner platforms
- Integration of more RF functions into smaller-geometry silicon
To date, the teams have been granted 76 U.S. patents with 30 U.S. patent applications pending for RF circuit, architectural and system designs.
The teams are networked with Microtune’s RF broadband and automotive experts at the RF Center for Excellence in Ingolstadt, Germany, to ensure that expertise and intellectual property is shared, reused and integrated.
RF Design Resources
The teams work in state-of-the-art facilities that house millions of dollars worth of equipment and software, including cable television multi-tone testers, test generators for testing with any analog or digital modulation used for video or data world wide, IC test stations, spectrum and vector signal analyzers, and sophisticated DOCSIS and ATSC test setups. The company provides each engineer with thousands of dollars in capital equipment to ensure that each professional is working with the latest and best hardware and software design tools.
Additionally, Microtune has invested millions of dollars in a state-of-the-art lab that provides verification and diagnostic equipment to verify chip-level performance and to develop and debug system-level designs. From the application viewpoint, the lab is designed to handle the needs of both cable and off-air testing.

The Plano facility offers an advanced center for not only R&D and RF-IC design, but also test and manufacturing. It provides the tools and equipment required to resolve complex RF issues, to bring advanced products to market and to create robust solutions that can move from concept to volume production.
RF Design Practices
The teams are committed to on-time execution and maintains the highest level of practices and standards, from design reviews to benchmarking. Through defined methodologies, processes and techniques, the focus is on quality, predictability and efficiency.
RF Design Support
To support customers in integrating Microtune RF technology, Microtune offers an infrastructure of worldwide application and engineering assistance. Engineers in the
RF Centers for IC Excellence offer troubleshooting and engineering support on complex customization projects and have created Evaluation Boards and Reference Designs that enable customers to acquire an early-to-market solution for their RF needs. Local field application support provides immediate and direct customer support, ensuring total customer satisfaction in deploying the company’s RF products.
